Five-step plan - The divorce process

Your Divorce Consultant supports you right from the very start of the divorce process: from arranging an introductory meeting to lodging your petition with the court. He or she is a family mediator backed up by experts in the multiple disciplines involved in the divorce process. We support, inform and mediate.

The Divorce Consultants and the five-step plan

Step 0: Introductory meeting
We discuss your situation and explain how we can support you during the divorce process.

Step 1: Taking inventory
At the end of the introductory meeting you will be given some homework to do. We will ask you to take inventory of your past and think about your future. You will be given all the documents you need to help you do just that.

Step 2: Meetings
Over the course of one or more meetings (the exact number depends on your situation) we will try to reach an agreement on your children, your shared home and your assets.

Step 3: Optimising the agreement (in fiscal, legal and notarial terms)
Once this information is collected, our experts examine your file to make sure that we produce a divorce agreement that is solid in the short and long term.

Step 4: Incorporating the agreement into a divorce agreement
We make sure that your divorce agreements complies with the legal standards.

Step 5: Submitting the divorce agreement to the court
The divorce agreement described in step 4 is submitted to the court (this step is optional for unmarried couples).
About a month later, you will be asked to appear in court for the first time. The divorce is formally complete after your second court appearance and once your divorce has been entered in the municipal register of the town where you live. Under the new law, a second appearance is no longer necessary if you have been living apart for more than six months.
